2026 Taiwan Summer Camp

The 2026 Taiwan Parent-Child Study Camp has concluded successfully! This journey did more than just take children into Taiwan’s forests; it allowed every family to create unforgettable shared memories through exploration, companionship, and collaboration.
Amidst the forest, children slowed their pace to observe with their eyes, touch with their hands, and discover the life around them with curiosity. From insects, seeds, and trees to the subtle shifts in the woodland, every discovery transformed textbook knowledge into something real and deeply meaningful.
Even when it rained, the children donned their raincoats and continued searching for the clues nature had left behind. They learned to ask questions, share observations, and complete tasks, building courage and confidence through teamwork. Parents joined their children in these experiences and challenges, rediscovering the natural beauty of Taiwan through their children’s eyes. The photos—capturing expressions of deep focus, smiles of surprise, and families exploring side-by-side—record the most precious outcomes of this camp. True learning happens not only in the classroom but also in moments of observation, conversation, and hugging, and through the shared process of overcoming challenges together.
We extend our gratitude to all the participating children and parents for approaching every activity with an open heart. We also thank the teachers, group leaders, staff, and our partners in Taiwan for safeguarding every step of this learning journey with professionalism and care. It was everyone’s dedication and mutual support that ensured the 2026 Taiwan Parent-Child Study Camp was a safe and resounding success. Although the journey has ended, the courage, observational skills, and cultural understanding the children gained—along with the memories of Taiwan created together as a family—will continue to support their growth. Thank you to every child, parent, and partner for helping us turn learning into a shared family memory.

To take Mandarin learning beyond the classroom and into the realm of authentic cultural experiences, the Taiwan Center for Mandarin Learning (TCML) in Northern California organized an outing on Mother’s Day (May 10). Teachers and students visited the Fox Theater in Redwood City to watch *WE ARE TAIWAN*, a performance by the National Taiwan University of Sport Dance Troupe, allowing students to gain a deeper understanding of Taiwan through art and culture.
TCML upholds the educational philosophy of “Learning Mandarin, Understanding Taiwan, and Experiencing Culture.” Beyond classroom-based language instruction, the center actively encourages students to participate in various Taiwanese cultural events across the Bay Area. For this occasion, students from adult Mandarin classes, alumni, and community members were invited to attend the performance together. The goal was to use dance, music, and theatrical arts to enable learners to appreciate the diversity and vitality of Taiwanese culture from various perspectives.
On the day of the event, students from diverse cultural backgrounds gathered with their families at the Fox Theater, taking group photos to cherish the memory. During the performance, the dancers used superb technique and expressive body language to interpret Taiwan’s human landscape, multiculturalism, and stories of the land, leaving a profound impression on many students who were experiencing Taiwanese performing arts for the first time.
After the show, TCML teachers and students interacted and took photos with the dance troupe members. Together, they held up the “Taiwan Center for Mandarin Learning” banner, demonstrating their enthusiasm for promoting Mandarin education and Taiwanese culture overseas. Many students remarked that participating in cultural activities firsthand not only boosted their interest in learning Mandarin but also deepened their understanding of the cultural contexts introduced in class, making language learning a more vivid and engaging experience.
TCML believes that language is more than just words and grammar; it is a vital bridge for cultural exchange. Moving forward, the center will continue to integrate Bay Area Taiwanese cultural, artistic, and community events into its programs. By guiding students into real-life settings and combining Mandarin learning with cultural experiences, TCML aims to further deepen the overseas community’s understanding of Taiwanese culture and foster cultural exchange between Taiwan and the United States.

Chinese Market – Learning Beyond the Classroom

To celebrate the end of the semester, the Taiwan Center for Mandarin Learning (TCML) hosted a Chinese Marketplace, giving adult learners the opportunity to use Mandarin in a fun, real-life setting. Each class set up a booth, and students used play money to practice shopping, asking prices, bargaining, and making purchases all in Mandarin. Taking turns as vendors and customers, they confidently used everyday expressions while interacting with classmates.
For many students who have few opportunities to speak Chinese outside the classroom, this hands-on activity transformed what they had learned into meaningful communication. The marketplace was filled with laughter, teamwork, and cultural exchange as students practiced their language skills and built new friendships.
The event was a wonderful reminder that language is more than words, it is a bridge to communication, culture, and friendship.🙏
